Good morning everyone!

I’m up bright and early at the Montreal airport waiting to catch my flight. I’m going to Nashville for the weekend with my mom to work on some songwriting. So excited to see how this weekend goes and can’t wait to meet lots of wonderful people!

Stay tuned for more,

Delaney xoxo

Hello everyone! My name is Delaney and I am the new Miss Teenage Lanark County! I am so excited to be started this journey and see where this road takes me. So I will start on telling you a few things about me! I grew up in a small town called Pakenham and I am attending Bishop’s University and living in Lennoxville at the moment. I am the oldest of 4 children, 2 sisters and a brother. We are a very musical family, all of us started playing the fiddle at the age of 3 and started to learn other instruments along the way. Over the years I have developed a love for singing and songwriting and started my career as a country singer/songwriter. My zodiac sign is Leo, I am a big time Ottawa Sens fan and love watching my little brother play hockey at local arenas. I love cake decorating, country music, hunting and fishing, snowmobiling, four wheeling and lots of other outdoor activities. A country girl at heart who loves to make music and make a difference in her community! I have recorded two new songs, Black & Blue and So Long, that will be released on March 6th. Entering Miss Teenage Ontario was one of the best ideas I’ve had! I’ve met so many nice girls and have learnt so much just in the two days of the pageant.

I hope to have all of you’s follow my journey to Nationals! You can also go to my website: www.delaneygrant.com, follow my on twitter @mtlanarkcounty, instagram @missteenagelanarkcounty, and my Facebook page: facebook.com/MissTeenageLanarkCounty2015

Wow, I’ve really tried hard to be blogging throughout the week about my adventure, but MAN OH MAN it is soooooo hard!  There is tons of early mornings and late nights!  But it is SOOOO worth it!!

On day 1 we all got united/reunited at a welcome party!  We there met some amazing sponsors and even got some amazing HiTech sneekers!!

On day 2 we all lounged around for about 6 hours!…. BUT it was amazing, we had our Miss Teen Canada World photoshoot, video shoot, and even our interviews! (Interviews were my fave!!)

On day 3 we got up REAL early (like 4am early!!) and were on Breakfast Television around 6am, we then went to High Park to have an AMAZING breakfast.  After that we headed to the CN Tower for some super cool views!! Then we went on a hunt/shopping adventure in the Distillery District and ate lunch at an amazing local cafe!  We then went shopping at Costa Blanca who sponsored every girl $50 to spend at their store!(I got 3 awesome tops!)  After that we headed back to the hotel and practiced our pageant walks briefly.

On day 4 we woke up quite early again!  We went back to High Park for breakfast again.  After that we went to do some yoga at UnionFit, unfortunately because of my hip I was unable to partake in it! 🙁  We then got back to the hotel to do some MAJOR foot torture…. woops I mean choreography ;)…. then once we could, we took off our crazy heels and got dressed and ready to head to the Eaton Centre to shop at Garage, who also gave all the girls a $50 gift card!!

We all JUST got back from the hotel and I think its time to sleep….. I need to be up early tomorrow….. THERE’S MORE TO COME LADIES AND GENTS!!

The only vacation that I have ever been on was to Walt Disney World in Florida.  Twice.   So, I choose my dream vacation with S-Trip! to be at a beach.  I would love to just lay on the beach all day soaking up the rays and having the beautiful view of the ocean and mountains just meters away.  Talk about breath taking!!!  I have done some research and have come to the conclusion that Bora Bora, France would be the best place to fulfill my dream.   An interesting fact that I learned about this island is that the ancient name for it is Pora Pora.  It  means “first born,”  and it came from legends describing this as the first island to rise.

I would love if some of my best pals would come with me.  It would be a blast to dance the night away with the girls and of course, who better than to drool over the good looking guys on the beach behind out sunglasses!  I can see us girls taking in a massage and doing some shopping on the island.  Swimming with the sharks and rays in the ocean would be amazing.  Hiking across the island is also on my must-do list (although I’m not sure if the girls would be up to this one. lol).  Tanning on the fabulous beach, a no-brainer and then a thorough tour of the entire island showing us everything exciting including the World War 2 canons!  It would be the experience of a life time if I had the opportunity to travel and vacation to Bora Bora with my friends.  Having my friends there with me would definitely complete the experience.  I can’t see myself thoroughly enjoying my time there without them.  They always make me feel comfortable and are guaranteed to make me laugh!

I think it is awesome that S-Trip! is sponsoring Miss Teen Canada World 2013.  Did you know that for over 35 years S-Trip! has been a leader in student travel providing life-changing trips to over 40,000 students annually in over 40 destinations around the world. S-Trip! travellers are encouraged to become global citizens; opening their eyes to new cultures, languages, and experiences. Recently named Profit Magazine’s 25th fastest growing company in Canada, and recognized as one of Canada’s Best Managed Companies by Deloitte and CIBC, S-Trip! is a leader in student travel in North America. Beat them to the punch” with Personalized Hand Towels

If my marketing company was offered the $250,000 budget from Signature Towels to make a 30 second commercial, I would make sure that it was eye catching and memorable.

Picture this:

The commercial would start out with the “Signature Towels” logo in the bottom left hand corner.  It stays there throughout the entire commercial.  The viewers are listening to “Eye of the Tiger” by Survivor while we watch two strong and very good looking men finishing up a round in a boxing ring.  The setting is in a dark, cold arena.  The camera is zoomed in on both fighters as they stare each other down and dance around the ring.  Both fighters are really sweaty and tired.  The bell rings and the camera follows fighter #1 into the corner.  The music gets quiet.  The crowd is cheering and is rowdy.  The towel kid hands him an old towel.  He is about 10 years old and has a thinner build.  The fighter gives the kids a dirty look and reaches over to grab his personalized towel that clearly shows his name on it.  He wipes his face and neck dry and throws the dirty towel in the kid’s face saying “you’ve got a lot to learn, kid”.  Then the voice over says “Signature Towels – made for winners”. As this is being said we see that same fighter standing in the middle of the ring with his opponent and the referee and the referee has just raised his arm in the air declaring him the winner of the fight!

Actors:

Fighter #1: Channing Tatum plays this character.  He is the calm, cool and collected fighter who knows that he’s got this.

Fighter #2: Male model plays this character.  He is the energetic, fight like a tiger fighter who never gives up until its done.

Referee:  This character is played by an older, grumpy man wearing a referee shirt.

Towel kid: This character is played by “Rico” in Hannah Montana.  He is a shy boy who is intimidated easily.

Setting: This boxing match is set in today’s era in a boxing arena.  It is a sold out fight.  The room is cold but filled with loud and rowdy people.  You can feel the electricity in the air!

Over the past few weeks, I have been honored to be a part of a few wonderful and fun events, including,  Lambs down Park, Potty Rockin’ in the Park and Lanark Strawberry social.  Each and every one of them for a cause!

Lambs down Park was super fun!  It was hot all day and really busy!!  I sold cookies and candies for the Free the Children charity and completely sold out!  It was such a success!  I even had a few friends come by for support and company!  Lambs down Park is kind of like a flee market.  People set up tables and sell their products!  Other vendors even bought from each other!  It is always so nice that the community support each other!  All in all it was a real fun day! 🙂

Potty Rockin’ in the Park is a charity fundraiser to get porta-potty’s in the local parks around Carleton Place.  It rained A LOT at this event, but that didn’t stop people from coming out and having a good time!  We even had a local celebrity come and sing, Jordan McIntosh.  With this event, they raised enough to get porta-potty’s in one local park.  More fundraisers for this cause are to happen later in the summer! 🙂

The Lanark Strawberry Social is an annual get together for the people of Lanark County.  They have a band, and lots of treats!  I helped serve for this event, and with the all hard work, it was a success!  Myself and the other volunteers served coffee, tea, punch, and of course, strawberry deserts!
All three events that I contributed at these past few weeks were amazing!! I hope to be a part of them again next year and the year after that too!!

What exactly is a “green building”?  Well, according to Wikipedia, a “Green building (also known as green construction or sustainable building) refers to a structure and using process that is environmentally responsible and resource-efficient throughout a building’s life-cycle: from siting to design, construction, operation, maintenance, renovation, and demolition.”

The purpose of a “green building” is to be efficient with design, water and energy as well as to reduce waste and to improve employee health and safety.

A few examples of how to make a building “green” are 1) choose a design strategy – this can really affect energy performance. Buildings that have white roof or energy efficient shape and orientation, solar design, and using natural lighting are examples of eco-friendly design strategy.  2) installing a high-efficiency lighting system with motion sensors.  3) installing an energy-efficient heating/cooling system. 4) use ultra low-flush toilets and low-flow shower heads.

In my little hometown, Reid’s Landscaping is the only “green building” that I could think of.  They use solar panels to help reduce the amount of energy that they use.

Solar power is very safe.   It emits no carbon dioxide, fumes or pollution, and the panels can produce power for at least 25-30 years. The sun’s light contains energy. When light hits an object the energy turns into heat.  But when light hits certain materials the energy turns into an electrical current instead, which we can then harness for power.  Solar power cells use the energy of speeding photons to create an electrical current within a solar panel. The solar panels contain two layers of silicon; one with a positive charge and one with a negative charge. When the sun’s rays land on a panel, electrons move from one layer to another, creating an electrical current. The inverter takes the current and converts it into usable power (240V AC).

A heritage building, a collection and a conservation site on the Indian River in Lanark County, Eastern Ontario.  The Mill of Kintail offers so much to see and do.  It is Lanark County’s biggest public attraction, in my opinion.

On June 10th, I had a  chance to spend the afternoon getting my healthy dose of nature while hiking the fabulous trails  of Mill of Kintail.  The fresh air was crisp, the birds were singing and I was completely relaxed and at peace.   I continued my walk along the Indian River where students have done stream studies, soil profiling and wildlife habitat.  This truly is the perfect place to bring your elementary school classroom to study!

Friends of my family wanted an outdoor wedding  and actually had their ceremony and wedding reception held in one of the fields within  the 154 acres of Mill of Kintail.  They have a section designated specifically for weddings because it has become a very popular destination for this kind of occasion.

The Mill of Kintail proudly presents the lives of two important Canadians who were born and raised just around the corner from it.  Their museum retells the stories of Robert Tait Mckenzie and James Naismith.  Dr. Mckenzie and his wife were both artists.  He created sculptures and she wrote poems.  They used the Mill as their summer home in the 1930’s.  Dr. James Naismith was the inventor of basketball.  The historic building that the museum is in is absolutely beautiful and the view of the river from the top is breath taking!

If you are looking for a fun, educational, family oriented place to visit, I highly recommend the Mill of Kintail.  The trails, canoe rentals, play structures, and picnik areas are every reason why I chose to visit and blog about this amazing place.

That is why I have chosen to visit this local land mark.

Thank you Niagara Falls for sponsoring the Miss Teen Canada World 2nd blog challenge!!!

On Friday June 7th I was lucky enough to be a part of Relay for Life in Almonte, Ontario.   I went as a volunteer with my aunt Donna Ward who is also a survivor.  We walked the survivor victory lap together hand in hand because I was her caregiver.  It was really a touching a moment.  I helped out mostly in the “Fight Back Zone”.  In that tent they show people the dangers of cancer and how to try to prevent it and test yourself.  It was really a great night filled with amazing people and some outstanding stories!!   At one point of the night, I was with the mayor of Almonte talking to the survivors.  Around 8pm that night I was invited on the stage to talk about my platform and how it was important for me that everyone was there and supported an amazing cause!  We even had a local singer who is now making it big on the country charts come and sing for us.  Jordan McIntosh did amazing, and just like me and everyone else there he had a story and a reason to be at Relay for Life and support the cause.  All in all it was just an amazing night with tons of positive vibes and lots of cheering and tons of hugs passed along!  This will be one night I will never forget!!
